The accreditation acknowledges the activity being delivered across VolkerWessels UK to raise awareness of EDI, and the development of the company’s 'Building Inclusion Together' strategy. The strategy sets out the company’s approach and commitment to an inclusive working environment, and encompasses a programme of activities and multi-channel communications. A key activity has been EDI awareness training, which is being rolled out to every employee across the business, along with a series of communications and EDI surveys.

The National Centre for Diversity’s assessor described VolkerWessels UK’s commitment to EDI as ‘exemplary’ and said: “I have seen a range of positive messages and buy-in to the principles of EDI.”

VolkerWessels UK’s approach to EDI is led by Hollie Woodard, head of equality, diversity and inclusion, supported by a cross-business EDI Steering Committee, and sponsored by Naomi Connell, chief finance officer, on behalf of the board.

Hollie Woodard said: "Every aspect of our day to day work and activities is impacted by our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, and this achievement underlines the progress that we have made as a business. Through our 'Building Inclusion Together' strategy we will continue our efforts to make sure we offer a working environment which is inclusive for everyone - for our employees, our clients and the communities where we work.”

Naomi Connell, chief finance officer, added: "I am delighted that we’ve achieved the Investors in Diversity standard, which demonstrates the commitment of people across the business to driving forward high standards of equality, diversity and inclusion. EDI is fundamental to VolkerWessels UK; as well as attracting and retaining a diverse workforce, inclusion is a key part of our culture and it is very important to us to ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued.”
