St Pancras Station

London

VolkerHighways has completed a major scheme to install the external areas for the regeneration and redevelopment of St Pancras International Railway Station. 1,700m² of Scoutmoor Yorkstone were laid to the footways and 1,200m² of Granite setts to the carriageway and taxi lay-bys.  The design and installation of granite steps and a bespoke circular bench was included in the scope of works.

The main paved areas are bounded by anti-terrorist stainless steel bollards set into heavy reinforced concrete ground beams hidden under the paving and kerb edging.

The Yorkstone paving is laid on special mortar bedded on reinforced concrete ground slabs, some of which form voids to facilities below ground level.

Specially made granite seating topped with glass panels and stainless steel balustrading surround a circular pavement light, creating a feature alongside the entrance steps to the concourse.

Drainage is achieved through slotted gratings set within Yorkstone banding. Granite paving, kerbs and sets have been used to delineate areas and to provide extra strength to areas where wheel loads could apply.

Works included the taxi feeder on the West side of the terminal, pedestrian barriers, road surfacing and road markings.
