A ‘sustainability’ win for Ely Southern Bypass at CIWM Awards
VolkerFitzpatrick is delighted to have been awarded ‘Most Sustainable Construction & Demolition Project’ for Ely Southern Bypass, by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).
Now in their 11th year, the awards recognise and reward best practice in the sustainable management of waste and resources along with reduction of environmental impact, across a range of sectors, including construction.
To be considered for such an award, projects must demonstrate an innovative approach or application and must match or exceed accepted good practice. Working closely with Cambridgeshire County Council, the Ely Southern Bypass team have implemented several forward-thinking initiatives, saving the project 133,200 road miles and 50.25 tonnes of CO2e.
Ben Joyce, project manager for VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “This award is primarily focussed around the VolkerFitzpatrick team’s initiative to find a source of earthworks fill material within two miles of the site. It is recognition of a great team effort and a lot of hard work to identify the opportunity initially and to take this through to fruition.”
