  • Thanet Parkway Station

    In March 2021, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by BAM Nuttal to support them with the construction of the new Thanet Parkway railway station, building platforms, overpass access and access roads in Cliffsend, Kent.

  • Tarrant Wharf emergency repairs – conventional piling

    VolkerGround Engineering has demonstrated its extensive marine piling knowledge and experience, supporting VolkerStevin in West Sussex, where they are working to deliver the Arundel Tidal Defence (ATD) scheme.

  • East West Rail structures

    In 2019 VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by East West Rail (EWR) Alliance (AtkinsRéalis, Laing O’Rourke, Network Rail and VolkerRail), who have been working together to deliver the East West Rail Phase 2 project from Bicester to Bletchley. The works will enable the re-introduction of passenger services between Oxford and Bletchley via Milton Keynes.

  • A585 Lodge Lane Skippool Bridge

    In Summer 2021, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a programme of works by Kier Highways, to provide temporary steel sheet piling, Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) and rotary bored piling. This work was done as part of the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool Improvement project.

  • Southsea Coastal Defence Scheme -Frontage 1

    With a value worth around £180m, the Southsea Coastal Scheme is the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defence project, stretching for 4.5km from Old Portsmouth to Eastney. The scheme will help to reduce the risk of flooding to more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses.

  • IPort Bridges

    In April 2023, VolkerGround Engineering was contracted by Eurovia Infrastructure Ltd to design and construct Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) bearing piles and a King Post wall. This work was done as part of the wider IPort Bridges scheme, which includes the construction of a 16.2m clear span composite deck bridge, with integral reinforced concrete abutments and wingwalls.

  • Echo Street

    Throughout July and August 2023, VolkerGround Engineering (VGE) completed works on quite an unusual site in Manchester, for Bowmer and Kirkland.

  • Piling: Lancaster Street

    VolkerGround Engineering has successfully completed a combination of steel sheet piling and Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling for WINVIC, in Birmingham, to enable the construction of a 25-storey student accommodation building.

  • Piling: Lightbody Street

    In October 2022, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by new client Eric Wright to work with them on Lightbody Street, Liverpool, adjacent to the historic Stanley Dock Complex. Eric Wright are redeveloping a former industrial site, constructing a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments, townhouses and commercial space at this iconic location at the start of the Leeds to Liverpool canal.

  • HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct Cofferdams

    In April 2021 VolkerGround Engineering embarked on its largest project to date, the cofferdams required for the construction of the Colne Valley Viaduct, on behalf of VolkerStevin, who were working with the main works civils contractor Align, a JV comprising Bouygues, VolkerFitzpatrick and Sir Robert McAlpine.

  • West Kirby Flood Alleviation Scheme

    In June 2022, VolkerGround Engineering commenced works on the West Kirby Flood Alleviation Scheme, for client VolkerStevin who were working on behalf of the Environment Agency and Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council. The purpose of the project is to improve the flood defences and promenade area.

  • Lucan place

    In January 2021, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by Deconstruct UK, to design and construct bearing piles and a secant wall, to assist them in the redevelopment of a former Chelsea Police station, within the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, into a seven-storey residential led mixed use development.

  • 3 Mills Studios

    In December 2018, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract to provide a combination of steel sheet piling and concrete mini piling, as part of a wider scheme to improve flood defences for the 3 Mills TV and Film Studios in East London.

  • Cambridge House

    Between February and September 2020, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded three contracts by Deconstruct Ltd as part of the Cambridge House Redevelopment project in Piccadilly, London. The existing building, a Grade 1 listed former townhouse and home of the Naval and Military Club, is being converted into a luxury 5-storey hotel and private residences.

  • Project Atria

    In October 2020, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by Oliver Connell & Sons Ltd to design and install sheet piles at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. The works were part of a wider scheme to construct a heart and lung research building at the hospital.

  • River Winster

    In August 2020, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract to install 130 linear metres of permanent steel sheet piles, as part of emergency flood defence works in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria. The project, to repair a failed clay bund banking which had previously received temporary sandbag repair to prevent flood damage to houses adjacent to the riverbank, is part of the Cumbria Flood Risk Management Scheme.

  • Shakespeare of the North

    In April 2019, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract to design and construct a contiguous bored piled wall into sandstone, in order to enable the construction of a Jacobean style theatre inspired by William Shakespeare, in Prescott, Merseyside.

  • Birley Fields

    In July 2019, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by Kier Construction, for the installation of Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles at Birley Fields. The piles will enable the construction of a new student accommodation building at Manchester Metropolitan University.

  • Lancaster Lower Lune

    In April 2020, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract by VBA, a joint venture between VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins - an SNC Lavalin company, to install a 2,211.9m2 sheet piled retaining wall, as part of a multi-million-pound project to build new flood defences along the banks of the River Lune in Lancaster.

  • Fairhaven to Church Scar coastal protection scheme

    In December 2017, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a c.£1m contract by VBA, a joint venture between VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business, to install tubular and sheet piles as part of a coastal protection project along the Fylde coast.

  • Skirting Beck

    In February 2020, VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract from VBA to install 478 linear metres of sheet piles in Egremont, Cumbria, as part of the Skirting Beck flood risk management scheme.
