REAL wins Best Large Project at Rail Partnership Awards
The Rail Electrification Alliance (REAL) has been awarded the ‘Best Large Project” accolade, for its work on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) Power Supply Upgrade project, at the Rail Partnership Awards.
The ‘Best Large Project’ category, which evaluated the work of contractors on projects valued over £50 million, was judged by Network Rail’s managing director for Infrastructure Projects, Francis Paonessa, and the executive director of the Major Projects Association, Denise Bower.
The Alliance, of VolkerRail, J Murphy & Sons Ltd, Siemens, Network Rail, Jacobs and TSP was tasked, by Network Rail, to upgrade the traction power supply capability between Wood Green in London and Bawtry near Doncaster on the ECML, to facilitate the Intercity Express Programme’s new Class 800 and 801 trains (including Virgin’s new ‘Azuma’ fleet).
This project is one of the only electrification schemes in CP5 to have met its regulated milestone.
Alliance director, Rod Moorcroft said: “It’s fantastic to see the alliance recognised. The strong collaboration on this project allowed us to drive innovation and new ways of problem solving, while also achieving our regulated milestones. Throughout this project, the team has maintained its pursuit of excellence by working collaboratively and building strong relationships with supply chain partners and local stakeholders. Our team are immensely proud of what has been achieved and showcased in the industry.”
