VolkerFitzpatrick Achieves Major Milestone at Hornsea 3 Windfarm Project

VolkerFitzpatrick is delighted to announce that we have successfully pulled the first cables through at Hornsea 3, which will be the world’s single largest offshore wind farm when complete, passing another major milestone for the project.

Cabling works are being carried out on behalf of Ørsted, one of the world’s leading sustainable energy companies. The project, supported by VolkerStevin and VolkerTrenchless Solutions will see the delivery of a 52km stretch of cable route connecting the offshore wind farm from Weybourne in North Norfolk to the Main National Grid Substation South of Norwich.

The first four cable drums safely arrived in early July, with transportation assistance from the Norfolk constabulary, following months of meticulous planning and preparation. The cables were pulled out near the Norfolk Coast, marking a major milestone for VolkerFitzpatrick.

Reaching this stage is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team and the subcontractors. Everyone has worked exceptionally hard as a team to ensure the next phase could proceed smoothly. While we still have a long project ahead, this is a significant accomplishment, and everyone should be proud of what been achieved so far.

Hornsea 2

Scheduled for completion in spring 2026, VolkerFitzpatrick is currently installing 208 km of onshore cables, to connect to what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm zone.  Once operational, Hornsea 3 will boast an impressive capacity of 2.9 GW, generating enough low-cost, clean, renewable electricity to power more than 3.3 million UK homes.

Hornsea 3 will significantly contribute to the UK Government's ambitious goal of reaching 50 GW of operational offshore wind capacity by 2030  , as outlined in the British Energy Security Strategy.
