The annual event, delivered by Build UK, in partnership with The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), sees contractors provide local communities and the next generation with a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the wide variety of career opportunities available within the industry.

VolkerFitzpatrick will open five sites:

77 Coleman Street is a multi-use development in central London. The project includes the construction of 68,000ft2 of office space and over 16,000ft2 of retail and leisure space.

The Boxwood Development is a brand new extension to the VolkerWessels UK head office in Hoddesdon. The team are currently undertaking the external façade works as the project nears completion.

VolkerFitzpatrick has been brought in to enhance the capacity of the main rail line out of the Port of Felixstowe, one of Britain’s largest freight terminals, by constructing a 3km “loop” that will serve as a passing place for the passenger commuter service and freight trains.

bmv, a BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and VolkerFitzpatrick joint venture, is undertaking key repair works to the M5 Oldbury Viaduct, between junctions 1 and 2 of the M5, for Highways England. VolkerWessels UK business unit, VolkerLaser, is also undertaking specialist works as part of the project.

The Luton DART will be a state-of-the-art, £225 million double-shuttle, fully-automated people-mover (APM) based on the latest system technology and design innovation, and capable of operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The project’s civils works are being undertaken by the VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier joint venture and the transportation system by Doppelmayr Cable Car UK Ltd.

VolkerRail will open two sites:

Scunthorpe is the birthplace of VolkerRail and today, its depot on Dawes Lane is home to the business’ plant division and its fleet of on-track machines, road rail vehicles and small hand-held hire equipment.

As part of Network Rail’s Great North Rail Project, VolkerRail is adapting the existing freight yard at Springs Branch, next to the West Coast main line, into a brand new facility to stable and maintain 24 electric and eight diesel trains.

VolkerStevin will open two sites:

The Strood Riverside Flood Defence Scheme was awarded to VolkerStevin by Medway Council in 2018 to improve flood defences and raise ground levels at Strood.

VBA, a joint venture comprising VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins (part of the SNC-Lavalin Group), is undertaking a £17.5 million project on behalf of Fylde Council and the Environment Agency, to replace and upgrade concrete defences and the promenade area at the Fairhaven and Church Scar Coastal Defence Project.

VolkerHighways:

VolkerHighways has been working with Medway Council since 2007 and is delivering their current highways infrastructure contract. The works cover planned and responsive maintenance, including carriageway and footway resurfacing, winter maintenance, drainage cleansing and road markings.

Alan Robertson, Chief Executive Officer of VolkerWessels UK, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Open Doors once again and particularly excited to be giving visitors an insight into such a broad range of sectors this year.
