VolkerGround Engineering at Arundel Tidal Defence
VolkerGround Engineering has demonstrated its extensive marine piling knowledge and experience, supporting VolkerStevin in West Sussex, where they are working to deliver the Arundel Tidal Defence (ATD) scheme.
Working from a jack up barge located on the river Arun, supported by a supply barge, the team installed 33 steel sheet pile crimped pairs, utilising a PVE 18VM Vibro and SL30 impact hammer. This was fitted with acoustic blankets to limit the noise to nearby residential properties.
Using a piling gate fixed to the jack up barge, VolkerGround Engineering formed the new 46.2 metre steel sheet piled river wall in front of the historic failing masonry wall.
Piling could only take place during high tides, so VolkerGround Engineering worked closely with the marine plant management team to ensure the safe movement of the jack up barge between each pile installation.
Operatives accessed the jack up barge and supply barge via a safety boat which was launched from the existing jetty at Queens Steet Bridge.
The wall will be anchored in the final condition, these will be formed at a later date.
