VolkerGround Engineering at Phase 1B of the Rochdale to Littleborough FRMS
VolkerGround Engineering has been carrying out piling works on Phase 1B of the Rochdale to Littleborough Flood Risk Management Scheme (FRMS). Once completed the scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to 723 residential properties and 488 local businesses in the towns of Littleborough and Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
Our team has been hard at work on-site, installing temporary cofferdams and driving wingwall piles, spillway piles, main wall piles and box piles using our versatile fleet of equipment, including the TM22 leader rig, pile press and long reach excavator. The SR95 concrete piling rig was deployed for pre-augering box piles and applying bentonite slurry to ensure a watertight structure. Additionally, the MPL was utilised to pre-auger pile positions before installation with the Pile Press, which effectively minimised vibrations given the close proximity of existing Network Rail assets.
