Retail carts

VolkerSmart Technologies delivered Independent Connection Provider (ICP) for electric supply to retail carts outside train and bus stations across London, on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).

King George 2

What we did

The works enable retail cart owners to set-up outside busy London stations, with access to the power required to run their retail stalls. This provides members of the public with an easy ‘grab and go’ service.

The scheme involved the connection of electrical supply outside 18 sites in the heart of the city.

Works included:

  • Creating concrete plinths
  • Installing DNO feeder pillars
  • Providing a single-phase metered service and private trenching
  • Installing Mennekes feeder pillars and internal gear
  • Installing metering
  • Commissioning the use of electrics
  • Installing electric supply for a handful of commercial properties

Project successes

The scheme required a high degree of expertise due to its complex nature, securing its success. Our multiskilled team helped the project to overcome challenges including working with LV mains in extremely public facing sites.

Throughout the project, the team worked to tight deadlines, but still managed to hand back and commission a number of sites early, including Turnpike Lane, Stoke Newington and Stockwell stations.
