The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a ‘share in success’ environment. Business partners within the alliance will generate profit through performance against the Final Determination. The four partners, VolkerFitzpatrick, Octavius, Atkins, and VolkerRail are aligned to the core asset disciplines with the fifth partner, Network Rail Minor Works, being multi- disciplinary for low complexity, low value works.
We have a great opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor ideally with track renewals experience to work on the track renewals workbank of the SID project.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing innovative ideas to improve health and safety performance
- Proactively promoting H&S best practice and established accident & incident prevention strategies throughout the managerial/supervisory/workforce levels (including contractors) across the VolkerRail Group as directed by the Senior Leadership Teams.
- Leading on health and safety and engaging across the site, implementing health and safety policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
- Provide professional H&S advice, coaching, mentoring, training and education to management/supervisors/workforce and contractors where identified as necessary.
- Conducting training, toolbox talks, inductions and investigating incidents where required
- Undertaking audits and inspections of the site, identifying areas for improvement and reporting on the findings
- Work with the managerial/supervisory teams across the VolkerRail Group in the implementation of HSQE standards and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with the VolkerRail Group Railway Safety Certification & Principal Contractors / Rail Plant Company Operating licenses, ISO standards, current applicable legislation and other client requirements.
- Engaging with the client and other external stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact.
About you
You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role.
The candidate will also ideally have the following experience/ skill set:
- Previous experience in an H&S role.
- Hold a level 3 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
- Have working knowledge of both rail, civil engineering or Plant interfaces and practices.
- Previous experience of working in the construction/rail industry is an essential requirement along with the possession of a PTS and CSCS Card.
- Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload.
- You must have a full UK driving licence be willing to travel to client sites in this role.
