piling work on a construction site

VolkerGround Engineering at Appleby

VolkerGround Engineering recently provided design support and construction of 30 600mm diameter bearing piles at 7.1-metres in length for the commissioning of a new, raised two-storey flood relief pumping station, located in Appleby Town Centre.

Appleby Town Centre is at risk of flooding from overtopping of the riverside defences and from surcharging of Doomgate Culvert. The town has a history of flooding and was severely affected by Storm Desmond in 2015, when around 170 properties were flooded. The piles will support a raised two-storey pumping station, that in the event of a flood, will pump surcharge flooding away from the Doomgate Culvert.

The team utilised its 38-tonne excavator equipped with MPL Continuous Flight Auger attachment for construction of the 30, 600mm diameter bearing piles. VolkerGround Engineering works were completed safely, ahead of programme.
